Exhibit #3:
Elizabeth Greaf searches for the “essence” of the scene, that is, what has drawn her to this subject for this painting. In this painting it is the gilding peace of the sunset. This painting displays the serene warmth of a sunset over Stony Brook Harbor. The viewer sits to the left of the Boat Works, looking at the water and marshes beyond, all touched with the glow of a fading day. As in many sunsets she had painted of this scene, the trees are back lit, framing the sky. Calm high tide water mirrors warm colors of the evening sun.
