The Alexander Technique

The Alexander Technique is a unique process oriented education where you “learn how to learn”. It’s based on discoveries made by F.M. Alexander over one hundred years ago which he developed over his lifetime and is now taught around the world.
Using specialized knowledge an Alexander Technique teacher will teach you how to begin to observe your automatic responses which have accumulated over a lifetime and interfere with your natural reflexive responses. They are the undiscovered causes of most aches, pains and chronic mental, physical and emotional tensions. These habits of mind and body affect physical use, mood, behavior, sleep, vision, and outlook. They tend to put excess stress on the muscular and nervous systems so that tension is a daily, sometimes chronic, concern.
Few people realize or stop to consider the fact that our daily activities such as sitting, standing, walking and vision are complicated by years of misuse, and postural mal-adaptations. We tend to rely on muscular effort rather than reflex and awareness when we sit, stand or walk. Unnecessary eye strain is, at this point, an undeclared epidemic.
What feels normal is usually a series of tensions we hold ourselves up with, rather than a natural and reflexive response linked up for optimal good use. Through the principles of the technique you'll learn how to fine tune your nervous system, avoid injury, realize potential, build awareness, improve skills, release years of built up tension (you’ll discover tensions you didn’t know were there; it’s hard to change something that you’re not aware of), move with more ease, breathe consciously, see and listen in depth, and learn more naturally.
It’s a necessary compliment to any other modality, including yoga, physical therapy and chiropractic. Whatever you do you’ll do it better after learning to apply the technique.
The results from each lesson stay with you and build on previous successes.
