“When we lose the ability to move in full and uninhibited ranges of motion, the quality of life, sport, and work are decreased.”
Annette Lang, Reebok Alliance

Q: What is Functional Training?

A: Functional training is defined as “activity that trains movement” and includes: balance training, stabilization training, core training, and dynamic movement training. The result of functional training is agility – improved reactionary forces where your body has the ability to compensate for changes in your center of gravity and can move quickly and efficiently. In other words, if you’re falling or suddenly caught off guard, your body is trained to react quickly, meaning you are less prone to injury. Exercises promoting core strength and stability improve or maintain posture and alignment as well as challenging balance and equilibrium.

Core training is different than just training your abdominals. Although the abdominals are an important part of your core musculature, true core training is amore integrated approach; it combines strength, balance, agility, and flexibility of the muscles that control the entire trunk and spine. Regular conditioning of the core muscles is essential to prevent injuries, correct posture, and making you more efficient with all that you do. Core training is about QUALITY of the movement, not quantity.

Testimonials:

I have worked out for 20 years, and probably achieved maximum results from what I was doing about 17 years ago. Although it stopped being effective, I kept doing the same thing, year after year. Last year I decided to work with a personal trainer and I picked Lisa because she seemed like a nice person. In six months I lost 30 pounds and went from a 37 inch waist to a 31 inch waist. Because I was so excited by my progress I decided to go back to the old way of training with a new trainer and get even more results. My health, weight, and leanness all went down hill. I realized that fate had brought me to a kind, modest, woman that is a master of her craft. Lisa's combination of private space and personalized training is the most effective way to reclaim the body you want. To say that I recommend her services would be an understatement. -Dr. Steve Nenninger, NMD

As a physician, I value the importance of keeping fit but recognize that most people, including myself, find difficulty making time for this essential activity. As a personal—and personable—trainer, Lisa Frey tailors her approach to the individual. Lisa plays a critical role in my personal health maintenance program. The multiple methods she employs is vastly superior to "pumping iron" and allows me, a septuagenarian, to engage regularly in vigorous outside activities, including singles tennis and mountain trekking. -Arthur Grollman M.D.

If people are not active in sports or physical education (in other words doing something that challenges their stability and ability of muscles to react), they start to lose balance at the age of 15 or 16.

After the age of 70, nearly 85% of people die from complications due to breaking their hip; my father was one of them. It is my mission, my purpose, and my passion to help you be strong.
