"HERE COMES THE SUN"
“...it's been a long, cold, lonely winter.....” The Beatles
Well, as far as winters go, we had mild temperatures till early December, leaving the tree population quite confused as to whether they should shed their leaves or not, leaving homeowners with a continual onslaught of unpredictable, unending yard work. Snowfall was minimal, which was disappointing for skiers, snowboarders, and children wearing their pajamas inside out hoping for a snow day. On the other hand warm weather enthusiasts reveled in the warmer temperatures, and all but discarded the dreaded snow shovel! For the first time in 20 years winter actually was shorter, sort of. Federal law mandated that States who practice Day Light Savings changed their schedules, adding about a month more of additional daylight.
Here on the lovely North Shore our residents are looking outside with a renewed interest, as crocus's and daffodils seem to suddenly burst forth. Spring gives us all a sense of new beginnings and for many, an entirely different mindset.
Our Villagers have some great idea's to share with you on the subject, so we hope you enjoy this Spring Issue of the ThreeVillagePeople.Companion

We Keep Growing !
Well it's certainly been a time of great renewal and growth for all of us in our virtual village. Our hits are up giving us a steady flow of traffic to the site. The Three Village Inn has our fliers in their rooms so that out of town guests can easily find the many things that they might need or enjoy while visiting.
We have two new areas that we have recently open and are starting to fill. Our restaurant area, "Culinary Court" and our musical section "Melody Mews". Please feel free to recommend businesses that you think would benefit from being a part of our group.
We are working on the site all the time, adding places and information of interest to keep it fresh and interesting. We are also in the process of automating the site. Soon you will be able to do everything entirely online yourself, including put up a new page, pay, and make changes.
Thanks so much for making ThreeVillagePeople.com a great place to be online.

It’s that time again when most people “Spring Clean” their homes, ridding themselves of unwanted items. Did you know that Spring is also the best time for detoxification of the body? Detoxification rids the body of unwanted metabolic waste products. Metabolic wastes are substances such as lactic acid and uric acid that are left over from respiratory processes which cannot be used by the body. These waste products often cause soreness and fatigue and must be excreted from the body.
Massage therapy increases circulation, thereby aiding in the delivery of oxygen and nutrients to the cells, cleansing the tissues, aiding in the elimination of these wastes. Increasing your water intake after a massage further assists the body in excretion of these products.
Massage also helps with…
Toning up muscles and skin
Increasing flexibility
Decreasing stress
Improving sleep
Relieving muscle tension and stiffness
Reducing blood pressure
Why not take 60 minutes out of your schedule for some peace and tranquility, while ridding yourself of stress, soreness and fatigue.

Spring is here! The little snow that we had is now a distant memory. The days are getting longer and everyone is ready to come out and smell the roses! It's also a great time of year to get together again with your friends and family and what better way to do that than to Host a Complimentary In-Home Wine Tasting Event! |

The Traveling Vineyard was founded in 2002 with a simple premise: the best way to buy wine is to taste it first in a fun and relaxed atmosphere with your friends and family. My goal is to create an atmosphere that basically turns your living room into a tasting room. I will lead you and your guests through five different wines, educate you on the four steps of wine tasting and why they are important and we will also pair foods with the wines. Yoga: Spring Cleaning for the Body
by Danielle Tarantola
Rousing with a renewed vigor into our yards as spring bulbs peek their colorful heads out of the ground, we catch a drift of what ancient Indian sages established ions ago: there’s a direct connection between the earth and our human body. Both recognize spring as a time of rejuvenation.
|
 |
Spring is the perfect time to mirror this cleansing process via cleansing the mind, a central element to the practice of YOGA, which nourishes and supports balance within our entire human system. When utilized daily as a tool for this purpose, yoga, an ancient system of health and transformation, can support this process throughout all seasons. The original idea is that ideal health is characterized by recognizing all of the dimensions of the human body, including the body itself, the breath, the mind, the personality aspect, and the emotions. Various tools, like postures, breathing, visualization, lifestyle and dietary changes, and ritual help to access any part of us that could utilize some spring cleaning.
Try this meditative practice on your own:
Seated outside in a chair, take 12 breaths, visualizing each time you exhale you are removing unwanted debris from your system.
On INHALE, raise your arms and visualize the spring energy is rising into you. On EXHALE, lower your arms and visualize you are forming a connection with the earth.
Lie down on a blanket, and focus on your feet. INHALE freely, and during EXHALE, visualize them connecting more deeply with the earth. Do this three times, and then do the same in the knees, hips, abdomen, chest, throat, ears, and eyes.
Rest a minute in silence.
Take 12 breaths, gradually making each inhale longer (staying very much in your comfortable range).
Sit up and place hands over center of chest. INHALE, and as you EXHALE, move hands straight forward, visualizing you are thanking the earth for its various aspects of support in your life.

Blooming Books: Let the Book Inside You Come to Fruition
by Kent Gustavson
“Creak” goes the closet door... Standing on a pile of a few sweatshirts, a footstool almost helps your stretching arm to carry down an oversized pile of dusty paper, typed on both sides, word processed and printed with some ancient, outdated machine.
|
 |
It’s time to dust off those ancient manuscripts (wear a face mask), whether in the cobwebbed closets of your mind, or really in the closet under piles of moth-eaten sweaters.
Spring is a time for true resolutions... We say that we will eat less, exercise more, whatever, but by Valentine’s Day, the love affair with change has faded a bit... But spring comes with ambition, excitement and light.

Villager In the Spotlight: John Ryley
by Charlene Burton
At our February Networking Night we were treated to an engaging presentation given by John Ryley, our village Dryer Vent Wizard. I have to admit, although it really made me think about the havoc that a little bit of lint could wreak, the thought did cross my mind that I've never heard of anyone having a dryer vent fire. Well that's actually not true. I do recall our dryer catching on fire as a child. I vividly remember my mother's panic as our psychedelic 1970's bedding turned to singed embers. I honestly can't tell you if that was a dryer vent fire, because, I was not particularly adept at domestic chores and therefore had no clue as to exactly what happened. I do know however, that since I've met John Ryley, I've been thinking about my dryer vent quite a bit.
Threevillagepeople.com follows me everywhere! Last month as I lay writhing in pain in Mather Hospital with some unknown stomach malady, thoughts of clogged dryer vents would soon interrupt my thoughts and discomfort. I had to wait quite some time before I was seen. By the time I was taken into the ER area, I was feeling better.
|
 |
Being an asthmatic and a curious writer by nature, I couldn't help but hear through the curtain, the woman next to me coughing uncontrollably. At first I was a little concerned that she had the flu, "Oh just great, a silly upset stomach and now I am going to end up with whooping cough." My stomach still hurt, I was in there for hours, I wanted to get home to my son, I was grouchy! I wasn't really paying attention when my boyfriend informed me that the choking woman had been in a fire caused by a dryer vent!!! We both thought of John Ryley, who was so playful and approachable, but was really trying to help people avoid a catastrophe. The poor woman was asthmatic, desperately struggling to breathe. On top of this, the fire had done extensive damage making it impossible for her to even go home. I would have never thought about dryer fires before meeting our endearing Dryer Vent Wizard. Crossing paths with this woman made me really stop and think how disastrous a clogged or ineffective dryer vent can be. It could literally cost you your life.
Dryer vent fires unfortunately are quite common. According to the U.S. Fire Administration, dryer fires account for 15,500 fires annually including fatalities and injuries . “Failure to clean” was believed to be the leading contributor to clothes dryer fires in homes. In October, Dryer Vent Wizard joined the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), in fire prevention awareness efforts by launching “Don’t Let Your Dryer Start a Fire, Keep Your Home Safe and Sound,” campaign.
So for bringing awareness to a very real, potentially deadly problem, John Ryley is our Villager in the Spotlight. Thanks John!

New Beginnings, with a Little Help
by Leah Mills
Mills Business Support Services was birthed in 2002 and I have been involved in many businesses including many not-for-profits. I have worked alongside pastors, directors and executive directors in a number of different organizations and have enjoyed helping these people with change and growth. I have also partnered with other business owners so they could “do what they do best and leave me the rest.”

A few years ago I started doing resumes. I have done a great deal of research and reading on the subject and have found that it is something I really enjoy doing and something I do well. So a few months ago I decided to focus my business on doing resumes and Internet job searches for people.
My greatest passion is helping people achieve their goals in their job searches. It gives me great joy to work with people to find out their strengths and abilities and convey that to potential employers on their resumes.
From reformatting an existing resume to creating a new one, from looking for jobs online to posting your resume, I would love to help you. Feel free to contact me at leahbeth@mbss.biz or visit my website at www.mbss.biz.

Bank of Smithtown’s E. Setauket Branch to Host Fourth Annual Biz-Fest with ThreeVillagePeople.com, on June 12th
Bank of Smithtown’s Setauket office at 184 North Belle Meade Rd., will host Biz-Fest 2008, the fourth annual business community networking event celebrating area businesses and showcasing their products and services, on Thursday, June 12th, from 5:00-8:00 p.m. inside the branch’s main lobby. |
|
The past three Biz-Fests were tremendous successes, with over a hundred attendees at each venue. We expect that this year’s event will be bigger and better than ever. It’s a great way to have members of the business community get acquainted with each other and to develop awareness with new relationships.
The admission is free and by invitation only on a first-come, first serve basis. The event once again is expected to draw a wide variety of local businesses, all of whom are eager to promote their products and services. There will also be refreshments, prizes and giveaways to compliment the many informal business interchanges. This year we have the distinguished pleasure of joining forces with Three Village People.com “I’m looking forward to collaborating with the Bank of Smithtown to promote and support our local businesses” says Wendy Martin, Founder of ThreeVillagePeople.Com.
Biz-Fest is an ideal opportunity for the business community to meet and greet each other. It is a venue to highlight the many attractive key personal or business products and services that exist within our community to an audience of prospective clients or customers.
The attending merchants will represent a variety of services, ranging from home improvement to health and wellness. There is no cost to participate. Participants are required to bring a small table & chairs or display, no larger than 4 feet, along with collateral promotional materials supporting their businesses.

Planning Your Summer Vacation?
Don't forget your pets! Let Friendly
Home Buddies take care of your animals.
Starting a new business is a very exciting adventure. And when that business involves doing something you love it makes it even more exciting. Debbie and Leah met at church and still attend church together. They have become friends over the years and decided to start this business together. They both love animals and so starting Friendly Home Buddies was just a natural extension of their passion for the animals they have at their homes, their own pets. |
|
“There is nothing more satisfying than going away and knowing that someone is taking care of my pets and loving them just as I would,” says a satisfied customer.
Debbie and Leah are looking to really grow the business because they believe that there is a need for their services. “It is so much better to leave your pet at home in their familiar surroundings rather than in a sterile kennel environment,” says Leah.
Whether you need someone to come in while you are at work just to walk and play with your dog, or you are going out of town and need someone to come in a few times a day to care for them and your home, Debbie and Leah will be happy to serve you. The initial consultation is free. It’s a time when Debbie and Leah come to your home to get to know you and your pet’s habits and establish a rapport with your animals. (They also take care of cats, birds, reptiles, etc.)
“We make friends with the animals so when we come while you are not there they feel secure and comfortable with us and not afraid,” says Debbie.
Why not check out their website at www.friendlyhomebuddies.com or email them at info@friendlyhomebuddies.com.

Robert Bradley and The Alexander Technique
by Charlene Burton |
 |
We live in a fast paced world that is ever changing, often putting extreme demands on us mentally and physically. It is no wonder that over time these emotional burdens bare down upon us like a heavy weight. Our bodies can become compacted sources of pain. Learning to move your body so that it works for you instead of against you is something that most people can benefit from. The Alexander Technique can help you to reach that goal. Developed in the 1890’s by F.M. Alexander, the technique is based around the premise that we need to unlearn our bad habits and reeducate ourselves to move effortlessly, alleviating what can be sometimes years of built up strain. The Technique is not a passive process. You need to become aware of how you move all the time in your everyday life. The simplest thing such as sitting down can be done in a way that is much more conducive to a healthy body and mind as well.
Learning this unique technique has brought relief to countless people for a variety of ailments from carpal tunnel syndrome to chronic fatigue. It works with the mind body connection, heightening ones awareness of how the body moves as a unit. I had always dreamed of learning this simple but amazing technique, but wasn't able to find someone close by who also offered affordable classes. I was delighted to stumble upon Robert Bradley, a local resident who teaches the technique right on Belle Meade Road. His class was truly enlightening. How can the simple concept of having the head effortlessly balanced on the neck and spine make such a difference to how a person feels? I was amazed, and also challenged. Try maintaining that fluidity of movement while washing the dishes or bending down to pick up laundry. Once you take a class you will start seeing how you move throughout the day, and this awareness will lead you to finding the source of your discomfort.
Robert Bradley is an inspirational teacher who leads with quiet intuitive guidance. The class he offers is extremely welcoming and you will notice a difference in one session, if you are committed to making the effort. But it is definitely a discipline that is learned. The reasonable fee for this class makes it easy for most people to stick with the program to make a profound difference in their life.
Stay tuned for Part II about Robert Bradley and his astounding Brain Work
